Installing a Do It Yourself Pool
Before proceeding with a do it yourself pool project, the first thing you need to do is to determine the pool site and height such that the pool top is about 6 to 12 feet above the ground at the highest part of the concrete apron. Next comes the digging of the pool. This may require the service of a sub-contractor and may take around 7 to 10 hours to finish, depending on the pool depth. The cost involved here is around $275 to $650. The walls are then assembled, each secured on a ledge that digs around the pool perimeter. The coping, or the top layer of the wall, is attached around the top with self-tapping screws. The pool liner is then placed in the receptor slot of the coping which also functions as a receptacle for pouring the concrete apron. Guidelines for a sound pool base The pouring of the footing around the wall exterior of about 8 to 10 inches thick and 2 inches wide holds things in place. This is included in the do it yourself pool package. You will just be needing 1 1/2" Schedule 40 PVC pipes and fittings, which are cut with a hack saw and glued and plumbed successfully in a matter of hours. In installing the pool bottom, you may again avail the services of a sub-contractor for the mixing and installation of the sand and Portland bottom as these do not hold up the weight of the water, but rather just segregate the dirt from the liner for a smooth, uniform fit. This job may seem a bit tedious so you may ask for assistance in hanging the liner, cutting the face plates, snapping the liner in the coping, and fitting the pool dimensions. The air from behind the liner is then sucked with the use of a wet-dry vacuum. The pool is now ready to be filled with water. The finishing touches In putting some last touches to your do it yourself pool, opt for a branded manufacturer to ensure high-quality service and to avail of the best warranties. The pool may be backfilled with assistance from a contractor to complete the concrete apron. This may take half a day, after which the pool may then be cleaned up, applying the chemicals provided in the kit.
